The Interpreter of Maladies
After reading the short story The Interpreter of Maladies by "Jhumpa Lahiri" the things I observed from the story varied from multiple things; Disconnection, Guilt, Narcism(Selfish) Neglect, Lack of Romanticism . Mr. Kapasi the tour guide for the Das Family found himself falling for a woman he knew nothing of. But the fact that the Mrs. Das showed much interest in Mr. Kapasi's ability to communicate with the people in pain and suffering and how he help alleviate the suffering the translating their encrypted pain and suffering by linguistic barriers. He felt good. It felt good to hear from someone that he jobs with the doctor was highly responsible However Mr. Kapasi's wife saw him as nothing but a doctor's assistant. Another sign of disconnect. Moving forward as the story progresses its climax and Mrs. Das confide in Mr Kapasi that her sons, Bobby is not Mr. Das' son, and also that Mrs. Das looks at Mr. Kapasi as a father by bringing up the age factor. He finds himself in disgust however keeps his composure. He finds himself conflicted in the middle of this family ordeal. Full of disconnection. Ironic how he was describing how he wanted to be a diplomat. To be an interpreter for the nations and people but lacked in interpret the affliction happening before him. Great story i'm thinking about buying the Book.
